2025 FIM Flat Track: after the break, action resumes in Germany on a long track

After Round 3 in Croatia, followed by more than a month’s break, the FIM Flat Track World Championship is set to return with Round 4 in Scheeßel, Germany, scheduled for Saturday, August 23. The second event on German soil promises to be particularly interesting for several reasons — above all, the unusual 1,000-meter long track, a rare exception in a calendar otherwise made up entirely of speedway ovals between 300 and 400 meters. The longer track will at least partly shuffle the deck: here, more than anywhere else, a powerful engine and the rider’s confidence at high speeds will make the difference.

The most accustomed to large ovals is undoubtedly American rider Sammy Halbert, used to competing back home on half-mile (800-meter) and mile (1.6 km) tracks. Scheeßel could therefore be the perfect opportunity for him to launch a comeback in the defense of his Flat Track World title — a challenge that has proven more complicated than expected after a streak of bad luck in Terenzano and, especially, Donji Kraljevec. Sammy currently trails the championship leader by 12 points, but with three riders ahead of him — Krajčovič, Svědík, and Tonelli — the task will be anything but simple or predictable.

The two Czech riders, particularly Krajčovič, will have to be careful not to be caught out by the layout of the track and, above all, to avoid dropping too many points, which could cost them the top positions they secured in the first part of the Championship. That said, both have so far shown great speed and impressive consistency — and we expect nothing less this time. For his part, Daniele Tonelli will have all the room he needs to unleash the horsepower of his TM, as he tries to keep Halbert behind him in the standings and not lose touch with the leading duo.

Elsewhere in the paddock, there’s the return — in fact, the debut — of German rider Christian Stange (Kawasaki), finally recovered from the injury that sidelined him for the first three rounds. Absent instead will be Finland’s Saku Purtilo (Honda), who will be replaced by Marius Kircher. With these repeated substitutions, Kircher manages to keep up a steady presence in the World Championship, supported by some solid performances. The wild card will go to Britain’s Thomas Hunt.

Round 4 of the FIM Flat Track World Championship in Germany will be streamed live on Saturday, August 23, at 14:00 CEST — tune in on fim-moto.tv. Below is the current points standings.
