ACU British Flat Track Championship: results from Round 3 and 4

On the scenic oval of the Workington Comets, right on the shores of the Irish Sea, Rounds 3 and 4 of the brand-new 2025 British Flat Track Championship took place. This new series runs alongside the well-established DTRA Flat Track Nationals. Officially named the ACU British Flat Track, the championship is promoted by the ACU – the UK’s motorcycle federation – and aims to establish itself as the main reference point for institutional support and official recognition in the sport. From our point of view, we just hope this dual setup helps the sport grow rather than spark rivalries or friction.

The double-header weekend in Workington went down on June 28–29, and in the Flat Track class – raced on 450cc bikes – one name came out on top both days: Tim Neave. Riding his Yamaha and backed by the extra training from racing the FIM Flat Track World Championship (with excellent results), Neave dominated.

On both days, he finished ahead of Gary Birtwistle on the Royal Enfield Sherpa 450 prototype. Besides getting solid results, Birtwistle deserves credit for competing on a bike still in development – unlike his rivals’ bikes, his doesn’t come from a motocross 450 base, but rather from a heavier, less powerful stock Royal Enfield. Judging by the performance, though, the development work seems to be paying off.

On Saturday, third place went to Tim’s brother, Tom Neave, who edged out Jack Bell and Thomas Hunt. Sunday’s top five mirrored Saturday’s. In the championship standings, Tim Neave leads with 43 points, followed by Jack Bell with 42 and Gary Birtwistle with 40 – a tight battle for the title.

In the Ladies class, it was double victory for Skye Adams, who also placed an impressive 9th overall among the men in Saturday’s Flat Track race. Jamie Kimber finished second in both rounds, with Chloe Johnson third on both occasions. Skye Adams now leads the championship over Chloe Johnson.

In the Minibike Stock category, Saturday’s win went to Peter Kimber, with Tim Greig second and Layla Simpson third. On Sunday, it was Greig’s turn to take the win, followed by Kimber and Simpson. Greig now leads the championship by 6 points over Simpson. In the Pitbike class, Tim Greig dominated both days – first ahead of Nick Thorp and Carl Baker, then ahead of Baker and Sam Heath in Round 4.

In the Twins class, Jack Bell won both rounds, finishing ahead of Gary Birtwistle and Jacob James on both occasions. The standings now show Bell in the lead with 46 points, followed by Skye Adams on 40 and Gary Birtwistle on 33.

The Vintage Flat Track class saw double wins for Torbjorn Eyre, who finished both times ahead of Caroline Miles and Chris Manning. Eyre leads the standings with a solid 9-point advantage over Jim Howard. The Motocross class – open to MX or enduro bikes with stock wheels and suspension, but no front brake and open tire choice – was also dominated by Tim Greig, who won both rounds ahead of Jamie Deacon and Luke Boulter.

Finally, the youth categories: Youth Junior (ages 7–11): Leon Hewson won both races ahead of Reuben Hall and Freddy Hewson. Youth Inter (ages 12–15): Leon Bennett also claimed double wins, with Cody Asher and Thomas Glossop completing the podium both days.

🏁 Next Up: The final round of the 2025 British Flat Track Championship will take place at Leicester, home of the Leicester Lions Speedway, on Saturday 16 August 2025 – where the first-ever official British Flat Track champions will be crowned.
