Round 3 of the Flat Track Dust & Fun Trophy 2025 took place on Sunday, July 27, following the season opener in Lonigo and the second round in Ravenna. The championship’s halfway point was held in Piedmont, on the small oval in Boves – the same venue that until last year hosted the FIM Flat Track World Championship, the Italian Championship, and the Dust & Fun itself, though on a TT track.
Truth be told, late July isn’t exactly ideal for organizing a flat track race: it’s peak holiday time for most amateur riders, meaning the turnout was low. Only 8 riders entered across all classes, prompting the organizers to run a combined race and then separate the standings afterward.
This led to an actually quite interesting mix of bikes on track, with the Thunderbikes of Pettinato and Panseri proving highly competitive against the more modern 450cc machines of Maran and Mantia. It was Carlo Pettinato who came out on top, winning 4 out of 5 heats on his Rotax 600, despite stiff competition from a typically determined Sami Panseri.
The Final also went to Pettinato, despite a costly false start that forced him to restart from the penalty lane. His comeback from last to first was nothing short of spectacular and added a spark to one of the day’s final races (only the Italian Flat Track Championship Final followed). Completing the overall podium were Sami Panseri on a Rotax 500 and Davide Maran on a Honda CRF450R.
Now, the Dust & Fun Flat Track trophy heads into a two-month break. The next round is set for Sunday, September 28, at the spectacular oval in Terenzano, in the province of Udine – a track many consider the finest in Italy. While several point standings are already nearly decided due to the limited turnout in Boves (Maran leads the Modern class comfortably, as does Mantia in Rookie), the Thunderbike class is still wide open: Panseri (two wins and a second place) holds just a 3-point lead over Pettinato (one win and two second places). The Friulian round, the penultimate of the season, will be decisive.
