FIM Flat Track 2025, Germany: Halbert dominates on the long track and closes back in on the title race

Round 4 of the 2025 FIM Flat Track World Championship on the 1,000-metre oval of Scheessel promised to be a big event—and it didn’t disappoint. Expectations were high for a comeback victory by Sammy Halbert and a crucial haul of championship points. That’s exactly what happened.

That the reigning World Champion would be competitive on a long track was obvious, but perhaps few could have foreseen the overwhelming dominance he displayed in Germany. For Halbert, it was a flawless saturday—no mistakes, no hesitation. From the very first free practice session, where he lapped half a second quicker than closest rival Corradetti, through to the heats and the Final, the American on the #1 Husqvarna prepared by Marco Troiano’s OMT Squadra Corse looked untouchable. Victory after victory, always with a comfortable margin. The result: a huge leap in the standings, climbing from fourth to second, now just two points behind the leader.

In reality, the real race was for second place, and that’s where the drama unfolded. An emotional Kevin Corradetti claimed runner-up honours after a brilliant race. Quick from the outset, the Italian showed real confidence at high speed, collecting three heat wins and a second place, always beaten only by Halbert. His best moment came in the Final, when in a single corner he passed both Yamaha-Di Traverso teammate Santiago Arangio and Britain’s Tim Neave on the GASGAS VFR, jumping from fourth to second with authority.

Corradetti’s podium fight with Neave and Arangio was one of the highlights of the day, with the pair finishing third and fourth at the flag. Both showed strong pace, particularly Neave, who finally moved back up into the positions that matter in the points standings, after a run that until now hadn’t reflected his true speed.

By contrast, it was a subdued outing for Ervín Krajčovič, who could only manage sixth, behind compatriot Ondřej Svědík. For the Czech duo, FIM Flat Track Round 4 in Scheessel was a tough blow: disappointing heat results and a lack of pace even against the second group left them well short of the podium battle. The damage is clear—Halbert clawed back 11 points on Krajčovič, while Svědík dropped 10 and also lost his runner-up spot in the championship. The red plate remains in Krajčovič’s hands, but by a slim margin of just two points.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Jack Bell, an impressive seventh on his international debut with Triumph (and even bagging a heat win), Menno Van Meer eighth on his Honda, Vít Janoušek ninth, and a sensational Thomas Hunt tenth. The 17-year-old British wild card made his World Championship debut but rode with remarkable maturity and speed. If this is just the beginning, we may well see him as a full-time rider in the 2026 FIM Flat Track World Championship. Tough luck for home riders Kircher and Alyani, both off to a strong start—Kircher even bagging second in Heat 5—before being forced to retire with blown engines.

Now, after a three-week break, the FIM Flat Track World Championship returns on September 13th in Vasad, Hungary, for a more traditional showdown on the 300-metre speedway oval. Expect Krajčovič and Svědík to be back in the fight for victory—joined by Halbert and Tonelli. With just seven points covering the top three, everything is still wide open.
