German Flat Track, The Moon Race: report and results of the third round in Halbemond

On August 16–17, 2025, the German Flat Track Cup visited the Halbemond oval on the North Sea coast for the very first time, and it was an unforgettable weekend. Under the guidance of organizer Jens Foehl, in collaboration with Maik and Wiebke Lüders and their team, The Moon Race became a true highlight of the 2025 flat track season. The Halbemond facility is legendary, a speedway stadium with over 50 years of history and stands for more than 30,000 spectators. Finally seeing flat track bikes go bar to bar on this track was like witnessing a small piece of history in the making. Here’s how the third round of the 2025 German Flat Track unfolded, category by category.

Pro Class

The Pro class grid was full of international talent, including three Flat Track World Championship riders: Dutchman Menno van Meer and the local young talents Nikita Alyani and Marius Kircher. Alongside them, fellow Dutchman Richard Japin, usually riding a Rotax, raced a 450 DTX this time after engine troubles sidelined his usual machine. The World Championship riders mainly battled among themselves, delivering a show worthy of a GP.

Notably, Thilo Günther, co-commentator for the weekend alongside former Speedway World Champion Egon Müller, competed in the Amateurs class on an electric Stark Varg. The electric flat track bike’s power proved difficult to handle, causing a few crashes, but his effort was appreciated and cheered by the crowd.

Hosting the first Moon Race at Halbemond was both a milestone and a starting point, and judging by the action on track and the smiles in the paddock, it certainly won’t be the last.
