On 7 September, the first round of the Scunthorpe Autumn Trophy Series took place, the traditional flat track trophy that every fall livens up the Scunthorpe oval, not far from Sheffield. The series consists of three races, with the next rounds scheduled for 2 and 30 November, and welcomes riders of all kinds: from modern flat track bikes to mini bikes, vintage motorcycles, motocross bikes, and modified road bikes. Even those with only a one-day license can participate, making the event as open and varied as few others.
The trophy features ten categories for adults and two classes for juniors, with all categories traditionally well populated. The women’s class consistently attracts a good number of participants, confirming the growing female presence in English flat track. The Scunthorpe Autumn Trophy combines competition with a friendly atmosphere, offering the chance to see a wide variety of bikes and riders on track, from complete beginners to FIM Flat Track World Championship stars like Jack Bell, winner of the Flat Track Class.
